We mourn the passing of our dear friend, Sister Helen Townley. Sister Townley has been a friend of the United Christian Ministerial Association for many years and we will miss her sweet smile and kind spirit.
How well I remember the testimony Sister Helen would share of how her father-in-law was listening to “radio preachers.” One day, she heard a voice cry out, “I am that I am.” That simple statement reached way down into her heart as she worked in her home that day and stirred up a longing for something more.
When her husband, Jake Townley, returned home, she told him about the radio program and how the speaker was preaching in the area. Bro. Townley adored his wife and he could see the sincerity in her eyes. They went to that service where Bro. H. Richard Hall was ministering and their lives were never the same.
God blessed Brother and Sister Townley as they worked side-by-side in developing a product and building a tremendously successful business.
Sister Helen Townley, one of the most precious women I’ve ever known. When I close my eyes and think of her, I can still hear her sweet voice. She was a gracious hostess, a tenacious worker, a true Christian, a mighty prayer warrior, a diligent seeker after God, a Bible lover, a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother—she loved without boundaries, and she was a faithful supporter of God’s work. The qualities that made Sister Helen extraordinary are too many to number, so I’ll just say what is in my heart—She was my friend and I’ll miss her.
What a sight it must have been when the angels ushered into the presence of Jesus, her savior.
Sister Helen Townley was my longtime friend and Christian sister. I’ve never known another with such a sweet spirit. She was a mighty woman of God who stood true for her salvation—never waivering. She and her husband, Bro. Jake Townley, were dear friends of mine and Brother Hall’s. I always looked forward to our Florida revival campaigns and seeing the Townleys and spending time in their home. Such a blessed family. They personified the statement: “Blessed to be a blessing.” Only heaven will tell the impact made on the kingdom by this godly family.
